Returning back to paint.

I get oil painting withdrawals. This happens usually when I can't paint for a few days. In these moments I paint something just for myself, like this face. I grab a tube of paint that either I hate or that I have never used. (I have a small case of paints that were given to me.) In this case Manganese Violet was chosen. (PS. I hate purple tubes of paint!) I think it is the challenge of painting with something that I wouldn't normally choose. I should have used more purple paint.

Exploring ideas for my BFA

These were fun, and I liked painting them. 8x10 oils.
This was inspired by a photo that doesn't look anything like this.

This one is from a black and white movie book.
Making up my own color is a challenge I enjoy.

I wish the photos were better with color. I should get a scanner!

Ship Designs

There were a lot more than these designs. I only included the better ones.

Sketchbook

These are straight out of the sketchbook. Pen and Pencil.
I like the tree the most.

Profile practice.

Happy whimper snapper.

Geometric Forms

I have learned so much from trying to draw simple forms.
I am understanding depth better. And forcing myself to push
and pull the form.

Kings and Queens

I just looked at my past blog posts and saw lots of improvement. I still wish I was much better. Some of the portraits are so bad. Oh well. I will be better tomorrow.

These are oil on board, inspired by Ryan Wood. http://woodyart.blogspot.com/2006/10/green-queen-o-diamonds.html

Avalanche Software blogspot is so cool!!!! Go there an be amazed.

Watercolor study

This was a painting I did in about 45 min at UVU's parking lot. I think it turned out nicely. I would love to do these more often. This was done last year. I like tractors.

Paintings I did at Mike Malms workshop.

I did nine paintings. The only two worth showing are these.

This was a 45 minute study of Mikes demo, 12 x 8 oil.

This was a four hour painting, it's not finished. 16x20 oil. She has glowing eyes.

Workshop with Mike Malm

This is Mike Malm in his studio painting a demo for us.

He blocked out the basic shapes.

Then he paints the light and dark side.

This is the finished.

This was another demo.

Mike is an accomplished painter and is an amazing teacher. I learned a lot from his workshop. This was well worth my time and money. He gives you one on one time, which is the best way for me to learn. I highly recommend any workshop from Mike Malm. www.michaelmalm.com

Hey the last picture.

The last picture takes too long to load. If you have skills and can tell me how to fix the size. That would be awesome.

New Media

This is my first digital painting I started in illustrator
and did the rest in photoshop. I love Wacoms, it is so
much fun! I learned so much from this painting. I hope
to do more of these in the future. Maybe I can finish this
one up for my portfolio in the summer.

Random Stuff

Here is another head study. This was my favorite one,
but now when I look at it there are a few problems.
Sometimes art is made to haunt us.
This is a self portrait.  Done with white paint and pencil.
This is charcoal. It was done in 2005, drawing II. I still really like this piece.

Just thought I would update.

I did this for class. The article was called "Thinking past the pain". The phrase I used was "Your lungs suck air through a clogged straw." Well I am proud of this but there is plenty room for improvement. I love the eye and upper face.
