Let Your Light So Shine
Wow it has been a long time. This is a painting I have completed called "Let Your Light So Shine".
This is about the inward light that all humans possess. It can shine brightly as it is shared but is usually not noticed from the outside. Kind of like when someone opens a door for you and your faith is renewed in humanity.
This painting is packed full of symbolism of light:
Sunflowers
I have chosen sunflowers because they are light loving plants. They shine brightly, and bring joy to lovers of nature. I am not sure if sunflowers follow the sun, but if they do the symbolism is beautiful. The sunflower halo is brightest at the top and fades down like the morning light scanning down a mountain. A few of the sunflowers in the pots are not facing toward the viewer, they are hiding their light.
Figure
The figure is symbolically standing on an altar offering her inward light. She has a meditative inward pondering or peace. There is a vesica pisces between the flower halo and the stone altar. As her light shines in the vesica pisces she is combining heaven and earth. That same symbol is also in her arms which form a square, and the round wreath that hangs over the arms is the circle. If you stand back and squint your eyes, you will see that the figure kind of looks like a candle wick. The altar looks like the wax and the flower halo acts as the flame. Everything is centered around the figure's light.

Mini Rome Ink Sketch
Another sketch done in Rome. This one is 2x3 inches. Drawing small forces you to abbreviate the details.... thus teaching you to think in ink.

Wash Painting/Drawing Donated to Westridge Elementary
This is a drawing I did for the silent auction at Westridge Elementary. They have an auction and a carnival every year to raise money for the school. Sorry for the arm and head reflection in the framed photo. This is a wash (Ground ink stick) and charcoal drawing/painting. FR Gruger worked in a similar style.

Beaux-Arts Academy Arts & Architecture in UTAH!!!!!
Its not very often that I post something that isn't my own art. Why? because this is my art blog. Anyway I am going to be attending a school in Salt Lake City that will teach arts and architecture in a classical and traditional way. Everything from wash rendering to multi-figure painting. I have been waiting for training like this for years.....and I am so excited. This is the website http://www.baa-utah.com/ .

Charcoal, Wash Drawing, after Frederic Rodrigo Gruger (FR Gruger)
This is the beginning and ending of a copy that I did of after Frederic Rodrigo Gruger. He would usually start with a light drawing, then wash, and wolff carbon pencil. I can't find anywhere that still sells a wolf pencil in the grades that he used. Bummer!!!
